SPLASH FOR A CAUSE

The Rotary Redlands Bayside Swimathon is poised to make a splash, while making a difference in the lives of those in need. This year, the Swimathon will rally swimmers and supporters alike to raise vital funds for Fun Farm Limited, a charitable organization dedicated to providing social connections, activities, and events for teenagers and adults with disabilities, as well as their carers and families in the Redlands area.

LAPS FOR PARKINSONS

Join Parkinson’s Qld for a fun morning dedicated to raising funds for Parkinsons. Every lap you complete is a pledge to promote a supportive community for people affected by this disease and help make an impact for individuals and families affected.

These champions assist the community with pantry food, fresh produce, clothing, meat, poultry, eggs, milk, and other supermarket items including toiletries and cleaning products all at affordable prices.  This is their way to give back to those in need, but the doors are open for everyone.

Redlands Church of Christ supplies a free brunch for our local community on the first Saturday of every month with the first for 2024 in February.  Why not come along and have a chat or look at the Bush Oasis Op shop before or after your brunch.  Consisting of bacon, eggs, sausages, coffee, pancakes, toast, and juice.

OSCGI is a not-for-profit group at Oaklands St Alex Hills. It covers an extensive area tended to by volunteers who give their free time and skills to keep the gardens growing.  Bring a hat, gloves, sunscreen and closed in shoes.

CIRCLE OF MEN

We are a not-for-profit organization of volunteers who visit various aged care facilities to help create an environment for the wellbeing and happiness of men in aged care facilities.  We are always looking for more volunteers so if you are interested in learning more, come and have a coffee with us.

REDLANDS WILDLIFE RESCUE

Redland City Council is urgently seeking phone service volunteers to support Redlands Wildlife Rescue. Redlands Wildlife Care Network is a phone service staffed by trained volunteers in their own home.  Some of the responsibilities of RWCN volunteers include:

  • providing advice to callers about sick, injured or orphaned animals,

  • organising a wildlife carer for animals in need,

  • providing knowledge and education regarding animal behaviour

LOVE YOUR PET? PROTECT THEM FROM HEARTWORM

RSPCA Queensland is reminding pet owners to protect the hearts that love them most - their pets. Heartworm is a serious yet preventable disease, most common in dogs, but cats can contract the parasite also.Heartworm is quite resistant to treatment. Prevention is the best method to protect your pets and avoid serious health issues.

Transmitted to pets from mosquitos, Queensland dogs are at risk of contracting heartworm if owners are not using effective preventatives.  For further info visit www.rspcaqld.org.au

HEATWAVES AND YOUR FUR BABIES

In this hot and humid weather, it is important to keep your pets cool with ample shade and water.  

Some RSPCA top tips for keeping your pet cool:

·       Never leave animals tethered as they can get tangled and not be able to reach shade or water.

·       Walks and playtime early morning or late afternoon

·       Never leave pets unattended in cars - they can turn into ovens in a matter of minutes.

VOLUNTEER MARINE RESCUE VICTORIA POINT The VMR Victoria Point is seeking active and auxiliary volunteers to jointheir dynamic team dedicated to saving of lives at sea. You will be trained in all aspects of marine activities to assist in the manning of their vessels and at the base. VMR Victoria Point are looking for Men and Women of all ages to fulfil all duties including, Radio operators, Fundraising people, and base duties if you’re not interested in being on the boats as crew.  If you are aged between 18 and 80 years of age, please contact our secretary at secretary@mrq.org.au or drop down to the base on weekends for more information.
