LOVE YOUR PET? PROTECT THEM FROM HEARTWORM

RSPCA Queensland is reminding pet owners to protect the hearts that love them most - their pets. Heartworm is a serious yet preventable disease, most common in dogs, but cats can contract the parasite also.Heartworm is quite resistant to treatment. Prevention is the best method to protect your pets and avoid serious health issues.

Transmitted to pets from mosquitos, Queensland dogs are at risk of contracting heartworm if owners are not using effective preventatives.  For further info visit www.rspcaqld.org.au

USE YOUR GREEN BIN CORRECTLY AND EARN A GREEN THUMB

As we head into peak season for garden organic disposal, Redlands City Council don’t want you to undo your hard work by putting contaminates in your green waste bin. Please place only organic waste which includes grass clippings, palm fronds, small sticks, hedge clippings, weeds, loose bark, shrubs and sawdust. Anything else such as hoses, building materials, pots and rocks and seedling trays will contaminate your green bins and waste all of your hard work and effort.   For more info visit www.redland.qld.gov.au/greenwaste

HEATWAVES AND YOUR FUR BABIES

In this hot and humid weather, it is important to keep your pets cool with ample shade and water.

Some RSPCA top tips for keeping your pet cool:

·       Never leave animals tethered as they can get tangled and not be able to reach shade or water.

·       Walks and playtime early morning or late afternoon

·       Never leave pets unattended in cars - they can turn into ovens in a matter of minutes.

If you see an animal in distress call 1300 ANIMAL a 24/7 Hotline or visit  www.rspcaqld.org.au.

PREPARE WITH A GUTTER CLEAN Redlands residents are urged to clean their gutters as part of their preparations for storm and bushfire season. This is one of the simplest steps to take to make yourself safer during a disaster and to prevent avoidable damage to your home.  The SES has identified leaking roofs caused by blocked gutters as one of the most common callouts in a rain event, and the risk of embers landing and causing the leaves and debris to ignite.

More info is available at for a disaster at your home and business,  visit Get Ready Queensland.
